Unaweep Tabeguache scenic drive
promise an abundance of wildlife.
More than 70 miles off-road driving.
And the only wildlife I saw was this
surprised bull.

Good that that I passed Telluride
ski area, over a pass of 10,222 ft,
with mountains over 14,000 ft.
But no snow along the way, more to the south
what makes it warmer, way warmer.

Several wild water rivers. This must
be great area for white water rafting.

An interesting historical marker:

Electricity's Holy Grail.
In a national debate over electrical power, the
Ames Power Plant determined the future of
electrical power.
Thomas Edison advocated direct current (DC) and
Nikola Tesla favored alternating current (AC).
Tesla won when alternating current was put to
the test in the San Juan Mountains.

Another marker, wise words from Theodore Roosevelt.

The nation behaves well when it treats the
natural resources as assets, which it must
turn over to the mext generation increased
and not impaired in value.

Along the way: Rico, a ghost town
in the making.

Now in the small city Cortez,
ready for Mesa Verde national park tomorrow.
