Feb 2013

A short trip to Belgium.

Visit town house of Kortrijk.
The rich history shows in the paintings
and statues.

"Omer", from Bockor brewery, a local beer, a very good discovery for me.

And Belgium would not be what it is, without watching
local sport, with cyclo cross world champion Sven Nys.

Feb 2013

The Northern California Craft Beer Guide.

There it starts: planning to go to Santa Rosa,
but got already stuck by exploring the Golden
Gate Bridge and the Marin Headland State Park.

One in Santa Rose, this little garden museum surprised me.
Luther Burbank a pioneer in agricultural science.
Around 1900, he developed more than 800 strains and
varieties of plants, fruits, flowers, grains, grasses,
and vegetables (The McDonalds potato). He developed a spineless
cactus (for cattle food in the desert) and the plumcot.

Ever seen White BlackBerry ?

The real target of the trip: Russian River Micro Brewery
in Santa Rosa. The one week a year that I could finish
my tasting of the 3 top best bears in the world.
Pliny the younger, seasonal released at there pub the
first Friday of February. And yes,, it is worth while
to be in line for 2 hours, with likely (crazy) minded
people, just to tast it.

1. Westvleteren XII, Westvleteren Abdij St. Sixtus, Belgium
2. Russian River Pliny the Elder, Russian River Brewing, CA, USA.
3. Russian River Pliny the Younger, Russian River Brewing, CA, USA.

But they have also a huge beer menu. Ever tried "Supplication",
aged for about 12 months with sour cherries, brettanomyces,
lactobacillus, and pediococcus. Flavors from the cherries,
Pinot Noir and oak balance each other nicely with a little
funk from the brett.

Next stop, Lagunitas micro brewery.
Got a great tour (and tasting session) of the
brewery from the local "Beer Preacher".
